Transport At Lands End Airport

Since the helicopter services from Penzance to The Scilly Isles  has closed down, more people than ever are travelling to Lands End Airport.

The usual way that people get to the airport is to drive. Follow the road signs to Lands End until you arrive at Crows An Wra close to Sennen. Then go right and follow the road north until you see the airport. There is an unmanned car park that is charged at £7.00 per day if you don’t book it in advance and £6.00 per day if you do. There are no concessions for staying longer. Owing to the expensive rates, there are a few locals keen to rent space around the area to park a car. A quick Google search should reduce this cost.

Another option to park is to use the totally free parking in St Just. A taxi from St Just to Lands End Airport is roughly £15.00 so for longer stays on the Scillies this may be best.

Buses run from the bus station in Penzance to Lands End Airport. The airport is located in a particularly rural region so the busses run a rural service but a handful go past Lands End Airport and stop there. Western Greyhound run from Penzance, Sennen Cove and St Ives but are very much decreased out of peak periods. It is recommended to find out before travelling and leave plenty of time in case of delays or cancelations.

The controversial “shuttle bus” runs from Penzance taxi rank five days a week and is replaced by private hire cars and taxis when it is not running. There is no known schedule or information at Penzance taxi rank displaying delays with the service which means people have been known to wait an hour for it. The best thing to do is to contact Lands End Airport and store the number in your cell phone for when you get there and telephone them to get updated.

The most convenient way is to use a Lands End Airport taxi service.  A Google search brings up a few companies that run to and from there. If you need a taxi when you land on the return to Lands End Airport then make enquiries about that at the same time. There is no website or app for taxi drivers around Lands End Airport to keep them up to date with the arrival times and any delays, so it typically means some waiting. For this reason it is a lot harder to get a taxi from Lands End Airport than it is to get a taxi to Lands End Airport, so find out about your return journey as you book the taxi to Lands End Airport. A nice tip for you is to tell the company the time you have to be there and not the time you want picking up.
